COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina Gamecocks freshman wide receiver Xavier Legette scored the first touchdown of his career in a 24-7 win against Vanderbilt Saturday.

The former Mullins High School football star caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Ryan Hilinski to tie the game 7-7 midway through the second quarter.

Legette caught three passes during game action for 34 yards against the Commodores (2-6, 1-4).

Senior wide receiver Bryan Edwards was happy for Legette.

“He just brings so much enthusiasm and energy to the receiver room, and I’m just happy for him that he got his first touchdown today. It’s gonna be big things coming in his future.”

Edwards caught a school record 14 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown of his own while Hilinski completed 24-for-31 for 235 yards.

The Gamecocks (4-5, 3-4) hosts No. 20 Appalachian State on Saturday.
