MULLINS, S.C. – The Mullins Recreation Department’s 12-year old all-star team captured the department’s first state championship Wednesday.

The all-stars swept through the competition when they hosted the double-elimination district tournament last month, going 3-0. The squad continued the momentum in the state tournament in Dillon going 4-0 and finishing off with a 4-0 win over Bamburg, allowing just one run in the entire tournament.

Mullins opened with a 2-1 win against St. George Saturday and held off Bamberg in the double-elimination tourney 1-0 on Sunday. Mullin then defeated Latta 4-0 on Monday and closed out with a 6-0 victory over St. George on Tuesday ahead of the finale.

Mullins will represent South Carolina in the Dixie Youth Baseball World Series in Lumberton, N.C. on July 26.
