May is National Barbeque Month and I have my favorite store-bought version: G. Hughes House Sugar Free BBQ Sauce. But it is not always in stock, so I have found a homemade substitute that is almost as good. So, today’s recipe is for homemade sugar free BBQ sauce.

Sugar Free BBQ Sauce

1 (8-oz.) can tomato sauce

1 tablespoon vinegar

2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon smoked paprika, optional

1 tablespoon granulated sweetener (can be heaping)

Pinch of cayenne pepper, optional

Pinch of ground cloves, optional

Put all ingredients in a pan and bring to a boil. Simmer for five minutes. Store any left-over sauce in the refrigerator in an air tight container. Keeps for about a week.

Yield: 1 cup
