MACON, Ga. – The Florence RedWolves dropped both games of a doubleheader Thursday to Macon by scores of 5-3 and 5-1.
Florence is now 13-19 overall and 3-3 in the second half. The Bacon are 21-10 and 4-2. The RedWolves return to action at 7 p.m. today with a home game against Lexington County.
In the opener, Macon scored five runs across three innings to earn the victory.
Jared Miller had an two-run double in the third for Macon and Cal Gentry added an RBI single as the Bacon took a 3-2 lead.
Daniel Harris' sacrifice fly in the fourth made it 4-2 and Nathan Schreckengost homered in the fifth for the final run.
J.T. Weber got the RedWolves on the board first with a two-run single in the top of the third. Joe Weisenseel drove in the other run on an RBI groundout in the fifth.
Weber was the only RedWolves player with multiple hits. Eldrige Figueroa had one base hit, walked twice and scored twice while Lex Tuten and Brandon McIlwain each added a single.
Parker White (3-1) took the loss for Florence after going 3⅓ innings and allowing four earned runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Chance Harris (4-1) got the win for Macon after allowing three earned runs on three hits in five innings with five strikeouts and three walks.
In the second contest, Florence managed just four hits and didn't score until the top of the seventh inning.
Figueroa, Weber, Kenny Piper and Jon Mitchell Carter had the hits for the RedWolves while Nathan Medrano drove in the lone run with an RBI groundout. Piper's hit was a triple.
Macon scored three runs, two earned, off Florence starter Culver Hughes (1-2) in 1 1/3 innings. Hughes finished with two strikeouts and four walks.
Walker Barlow allowed just three hits with two strikeouts and three walks in three innings of work for the Bacon. Schreckengost led the team at the plate with three hits while Calvin Estrada added two.
