Hartsville girls basketball coach Tammy Gibson

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Tammy Gibson will not be back next season as Hartsville High School's girls' basketball coach.

"I chose to resign," Gibson said. "It was a hard decision. But, I resigned."

The position of "head girls’ varsity basketball coach" was advertised by the Darlington County School District on the South Carolina High School League's bulletin board.

The ad was placed Wednesday.

Gibson was hired as Hartsville's coach in May 2011. Gibson actually was a standout player for her alma mater Red Foxes under state hall of fame coach Pat Hewitt. Gibson actually took over for Hewitt after Hewitt coached Hartsville for 42 seasons.

Gibson said her concentration right now is on family.

"I have an opportunity to coach, but I think I'll just not coach for a while," Gibson said. "And if I decide to coach again, I'll do that. But for right now, my focus is on my daughter and getting her through high school. And, we'll see after that."
