FLORENCE, S.C. – Former Lake View star Weston Rogers improved to 2-0 on the mound after going eight innings for Francis Marion in the Patriot baseball team’s 4-2 win Saturday against Flagler.

Rogers went eight innings for his second consecutive outing. On Saturday, he struck out four batters, and his final one kept the contest tied at 2 going into the bottom of the eighth.

Teammate C.J. Mackinson, who tied the game at 2 with a fourth-inning RBI single, gave FMU the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth with a single that scored Will Hardee. Nick Pappas then drew a bases-loaded walk to account for the final score.

The win improved FMU to 8-2 overall and 5-0 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Losing pitcher Will Abbott went five innings while striking out six. The Stingers were led at the plate by Hunter Baker, who went 2 for 2.

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – North Georgia outscored the Patriots 49-31 during the first half and never looked back.

Kailex Stephens led the Patriots with 19 points, followed by Ryan Davis with 16 and Brandon Parker with 14.

Saturday’s loss dropped FMU’s record to 17-5 overall and 13-4 in the Peach Belt Conference.

DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Francis Marion was outscored 23-11 during the first quarter and never recovered.

Shaunice Fulmore was the lone Patriot in double figures with 16 points.

FLORENCE – The Patriots rallied from a 5-1 deficit with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Francis made its charge during the final two innings with an RBI double by Taylor Johnson to tie it at 5. Johnson had two doubles for the game.

Then, a two-run double by Angela Buccilli accounted gave FMU the lead for good.

The winning pitcher was Katelyn Ellard.
