FLORENCE, S.C. – Francis Marion University women’s basketball head coach Jeri Porter has announced the addition of 5-7 guard Jasmyne May of Fayetteville, N.C., who will transfer from NCAA Division I Oral Roberts University and join the Patriot program this fall.
May played one season at ORU – seeing limited action – after spending her freshman year at Palm Beach State College in Florida. She averaged 8.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game at Palm Beach State and earned second-team All-Conference honors.
She is a graduate of Fayetteville Christian School, where she played for coach Don Gardner. That is the same school that produced current Patriot guard Abigail Bullock.
May averaged more than 16 points and four assists per game as a senior, and was selected to play in the 2017 N.C. Private School All-Star Game. She also garnered a McDonald’s All-America Games nomination.
She also attended E.E. Smith High School for three years, before moving to Fayetteville Christian. As a junior, she averaged 11.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game for a 19-7 Golden Bulls squad.
“Jasmyne is a big, long, athletic scorer, who thrives in an up-tempo style,” said Porter. “She excels in the open court, has a good mid-range game, and can get to the rim off the bounce. She adds experience and maturity to our roster, and will step in and be able to play right away. Her play will complement the players we already have.”
Porter previously announced the signing of three in-state high school seniors: 5-9 guard Mary Davis of Goose Creek, 5-7 guard Scarlett Gilmore of Rock Hill, and 5-7 guard Alexis Mims of Columbia.
This past season’s Patriot squad posted a 12-15 record and placed seventh during the Peach Belt Conference regular season. That squad loses four seniors.
