IVA, S.C. – Hartsville’s softball team beat tournament host Crescent by the score of 12-2 to win the Crescent Invitational on Saturday night.
The Red Foxes went 4-0 Saturday to finish the regular season with a 22-0 record. Also on Saturday, Hartsville won 3-1 over Landrum, 5-4 over Belton-Honea Path and 4-2 over Seneca.
In Saturday’s championship game against Crescent, Hartsville pitcher Alyssa Poston threw a five-inning no-hitter. At the plate, teammate Blaze MacArthur hit an RBI double in the first, followed by Mckenzie Bizzell’s run-scoring single in the second. And in the third, Jessica McWhorter hit an RBI double.
After MacArthur added a run-scoring single in the fourth to make it 5-2, the Red Foxes started to pull away.
Emily Woodham added a two-run single, Te'Asia McPhail scored on a wild pitch, and Kaitlyn Yarbrough hit an RBI single. Then, Brittney Cothran and McWhorter hit RBI triples, and Hartsville closed out the 10-run win a short time later.
In the win against Landrum, winning pitcher Abi Stokes went two innings before Poston went the other three to earn the save. MacArthur’s three-run double in the third accounted for Hartsville’s runs.
In the win against B-HP, Bizzell’s two-run double in the fourth gave Hartsville the lead for good. In this back-and-forth game, Woodham hit an RBI single in the third, and the Red Foxes scored on a passed ball. And in the second, MacArthur homered. Poston was the winning pitcher after striking out seven.
And in the victory against Seneca, MacArthur hit an RBI groundout, and the Red Foxes scored on an error in the first to tie the game at 2. MacArthur then hit a two-run double in the third, and Hartsville never looked back. Stokes was the winning pitcher.
