Quality takes time, talent and determination. Developing an extraordinary health system demands the same characteristics.

More than a century ago, Dr. Frank Hilton McLeod envisioned a hospital located in Florence, South Carolina – an outstanding and compassionate institution to serve the needs of the Florence community and surrounding areas. Fast-forward 112 years, and this principal of superlative service drives the day-to-day operations of McLeod Health, a seven-hospital system.

Physicians, nurses, clinical staff and environmental services to engineering, ground crews and volunteers walk the halls of each McLeod hospital daily, led by a mission to care not only for the residents of the Florence community but those living in the 15-county McLeod service area encompassing South Carolina and eastern North Carolina. This service extends beyond the hospital walls and into the region in more ways than just extraordinary medical treatment and patient care.

McLeod Health supports area organizations

McLeod Health supports more than 100 not-for-profit and local organizations by participating in events and fundraisers for these groups and by providing financial contributions. As one of the region's largest service organizations, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, computer technicians, environmental services workers, therapists and other medical professionals, McLeod employees' direct wage impact to the region in 2017 represented $488 million. This money flows into numerous local organizations to help stimulate the region's economy each year.

Recognized nationally for its quality and safety initiatives, McLeod Health has a leading regional presence in Northeastern South Carolina and Southeastern North Carolina and a dedication to the health of the more than 1 million residents of those communities it serves from the Midlands to the coast. McLeod is also constantly seeking to improve its patient care with efforts that are physician led, data-driven and evidence-based.
