Penelope Florence Fogas McWhorter, 95, of Greenwood, formerly of Florence, SC, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019. She was born in Huntington, WV, a daughter of the late Jon and Effie Shaffer Fogas. She is also predeceased by her husband, Riley Plato McWhorter; two sisters, Sally Fogas Robinson and Patricia Fogas Terry; three brothers, Robert, Charles and Palmer Fogas; and four step-brothers, Steven, Nicholas, John and Peter Prodan. Mrs. McWhorter was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Florence, SC with William Singleton serving as Pastor. She was a dedicated homemaker for her husband and children and she enjoyed reading, crafts, singing, and she had a witty sense of humor. She is survived by a daughter, Cindy Gail McWhorter (David) Johnson of Ellijay, GA; two sons, John (Diane Gainey) McWhorter of Hartsville, SC, and Rick (Joy) McWhorter of Greenwood, SC; six grandchildren, Kim Gainey, Charles (Rita) McWhorter, Michael (Brandy) McWhorter, John (Heather) McWhorter, Emily McWhorter and Margaret McWhorter; and six great-grandchildren, Conner McWhorter, Cameron McWhorter, Ethan McWhorter, Jessica McWhorter, Alex McWhorter and Walker McWhorter. A funeral service, directed by Cain Calcutt Funeral Home, will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 8, 2019, in the Florence Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel with Entombment to follow. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 AM in the Mausoleum Chapel just prior to the service. Memorials may be made to First United Pentecostal Church, 2517 W.
