FLORENCE, S.C. – A Florence man was arrested Sunday and charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting on Saturday night.

Larry Ja Juan Scipio Jr., 29, of 2990 Cobblestone St. in Florence, is being held at the Florence County Detention Center pending a bond hearing before a circuit court judge.

Florence County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call of a shooting at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday at 3131 Tall Oaks Drive in Florence. Deputies discovered that one person had been shot. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Florence County Coroner Keith Von Lutcken identified the deceased as Rico G. Johnson, 27, of Florence. An autopsy has been ordered to be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

According to investigators, Scipio is alleged to have knocked on the victim’s front door, and when the victim answered, Scipio came inside the residence and shot the victim multiple times. Investigators believe Scipio and the victim had been involved in a disagreement earlier in the evening.
