BRITTONS NECK, S.C. -- One person died Friday in a three-car crash on US 378 near Paul Ricahrdson Road.

The 6 a.m. crash happened when the driver of an east-bound Jeep SUV tried to pass a commercial vehicle, ran into the side of the vehicle they were passing and then hit a west-bound SUV, said Cpl. Sonny Collins, South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The driver of the east-bound Jeep SUV died, the driver of the other SUV was transported to a Pee Dee hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Marion County Coroner Jerry Richardson identified the victim as Anthony Blake Hayes, 31, of Johnsonville. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Collins said it is unknown if victim was wearing a seat belt.
