FLORENCE, S.C. -- A pedestrian died in an early Sunday morning hit-and-run on West Palmetto Street.

The crash happened in the 2800 Block of the road, according to a release issued by Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken.

The pedestrian, whose name is not being released at this point, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol's MAIT team is investigating, according to the release. The Patrol hasn't released any information on the crash as of 2 p.m. Sunday.

The victim's body will be sent to MUSC for an autopsy, according to the release.
