KINGSTREE, S.C. -- The Williamsburg County Fire Department and Williamsburg County Emergency Medical Service Thursday morning held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for a new headquarters station of the fire department and emergency medical services, and the administrative offices of both agencies.

The projected completion time of the building is Spring of 2020.

"This is the first brand new main station for either agency since they began service in the 1980’s," William Horton, public information officer for the fire department, said through a release. "The approximate cost of the project is $4 million and is being funded by a capital improvement penny tax that was passed in a referendum in 2016. Harrington Construction Company from Myrtle Beach was awarded the construction contract."
