DILLON, S.C. -- A 68-year-old Lake View man died Saturday evening in a two-car crash on US 301 that sent several others to area hospitals.

Dillon County Coroner Donnie Grimsley identified the victim as Donald Wayne Hayes.

Hayes was the driver of a 1993 Buick sedan that was south-bound on US 301 near East Countryside Road at 5:54 p.m. when the driver of a north-bound 1999 Honda accord ran off the right side of US 301, over corrected and ran head-on into the Buick, said Senior Trooper Hannah Wimberly, South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A front-seat passenger in the Buick was flown from the crash scene to a Florence hospital while both the driver and passenger from the Honda were taken to a Dillon hospital, Wimberly said.

Charges are pending in the crash, she said.

The Patrol's Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
