FLORENCE, S.C.,  – In anticipation of winter weather affectig the Pee Dee area and the potential for power outages, the Red Cross in conjunction with the Darlington County Emergency Management Office is opening a shelter at 7 p.m.Tuesday.

The shelter is located at Darlington Middle School at 150 Pinedale Drive in Darlington. This overnight shelter opens at 7 p.m. and will remain open as long as there is a need. For more information please call Mass Care at 843-395-5557

Because of trained disaster volunteers and financial assistance from the community, Red Cross has been able to help more than 700 people affected by disasters in the Palmetto SC region since Jan. 1, 2014.  On average, the American Red Cross, Palmetto SC Region responds to a disaster every 6.5 hours.  The Palmetto SC Region is made up of seven Red Cross chapters spanning 35-counties of South Carolina.
