LAKE CITY, S.C. – A man who is accused of shooting at Lake City police officers last week has been arrested.
Gavin Less Nowlin of Kingstree was arrested without incident either late Sunday night or early Monday morning by U.S. Marshals in Coward, according to the Lake City Police Department.
The Lake City Police Department, Florence County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team and U.S. Marshals were in search of Nowlin following the shooting incident Tuesday night in Lake City.
Lake City Police Chief Kipp Coker said someone fired several shots at the back of his officers while they were questioning a different person, according to The Associated Press. No one was hit by the gunfire around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday. Nowlin was the suspect.
Coker said investigators think Nowlin ran from the gas station after the shooting, the Associated Press report said. Florence County deputies helped Lake City officers look for the shooter for several hours but could not find him Tuesday.
On Friday, a $1,000 reward was offered for information leading to the arrest of Nowlin.
As of Tuesday morning Nowling was being held without bond on charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person convicted of a violent felony, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, hit and run and failure to stop for blue lights, according to the Florence County Detention Center's Website.
