FLORENCE, S.C. – It’s been more than 30 years, but soon, the sound of singing voices will be heard on the main campus of Florence-Darlington Technical College.
Choir members will get college credit and a performance on a national stage is already in the works.
FDTC instructor of music Rebecca Hunter is reviving a student choir to be offered in the fall 2019 semester. Students interested in the choir have to sign up for Music 101 to be considered for the FDTC Choir. There is an audition process for the choir.
Hunter is thrilled that her choir already has “a big time show!” She has secured an invitation to sing at the National Memorial Day Celebration at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
“It’s a great opportunity for students to learn from and hear other great musicians!” Hunter said.
Hundreds of students from choirs around the country are invited to the three-day celebration of the 2020 Memorial Day event in the nation’s capital.
The U.S. Air Force Band is tentatively set to play along with the FDTC Choir, and the show will be broadcast to American armed forces and their families serving around the world.
“It’s a great honor to perform for our service members!” Hunter said.
The music instructor is applying for grants to help pay for the FDTC Choir’s expenses to the nation’s capital.
