FLORENCE, S.C. – A new seafood restaurant is coming to Florence on West Evans Street. The Dizzy Crab is expected to open in mid-to-late August in the former J. Michael’s Grill and Raw Bar.
Matt Garner, co-owner, said J. Michaels was in that location for approximately 20 years. He said it closed a few months ago, and when the building became available he and his partner, Britt Campana, took it over. They have been working tirelessly to gut the entire building and turn it into a “full-fledged restaurant,” he said.
He said they have replaced the walls and the floors.
“We saw a need for a good seafood restaurant and nightlife,” Garner said.
This will be their first endeavor at a seafood restaurant.
The restaurant will feature lobster, crab, shrimp, oysters, mussels and other seafood, steak and wings.
Garner said the seafood will be boiled, sautéed and fried. The unique thing about the preparation and serving of the food is that they will combine the seafood with a choice of sauces of differing heat levels. The seafood will be combined with the sauce in a plastic bag and brought to the table in the bag, he said.
“There is nothing like it in this area,” Garner said.
During the evening, the restaurant will have a sports-bar feel, Garner said.
They are installing fifteen 50-inch televisions that will give customers a view of the sports programs on the TVs from every angle in the place.
He said they are planning a comedy night, karaoke night and live bands.
The restaurant will be able to accommodate 120 to 140 seated customers inside with additional seating outside. The building has roughly 4,000 square feet.
Garner said they will hire a complete restaurant staff soon.
