HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Hartsville Lady Foxes took the Wilson Tigers to task Monday night in a rescheduled game from Friday when an isolated cloudburst flooded the field.
Muddy fields or not, the Lady Foxes score 11 runs on 13 hits for another Region 6 victory 11-2 over Wilson.
Brittney Cothran and Jessica McWhorter led the team with separate doubles. Cothran finished the night 3-for-4 with two RBI’s, while McWhorter had an RBI on her hit.
Hartsville scored two runs in each of the first three innings and five runs in the fourth. They were hoping for an early night via the 10-run rule, but couldn’t squeeze that last run across the plate. Hartsville took full advantage of four Wilson errors.
“They hit the ball well tonight,” said Coach Tommy Garrison for Hartsville. “I was surprised they hit the ball as well as they did. We had to run a lot to stay on base.”
One of Wilson’s bright spots was a solo home run by Brittney Sehnke whose shot bounced off the flag pole in deep centerfield.
“We started out a little flat tonight,” said Coach Myron Frieson. “We started playing good ball, but it was too late against a formidable opponent such as Hartsville.”
Wilson scored its two runs on four hits with two Harsville errors
Hartsville’s Abby Stokes was the pitcher of record for Hartsville as she went 4.0 innings giving up three hits and one earned run. She struck out three.
Wilson’s Peyton McLeod went 6.0 innings giving up the 13 hits, 11 runs, eight earned, with three walks and two strikeouts.
Hartsville (8-0, 2-0) travels to Darlington Tuesday night for a Region 9 game. Both teams are undefeated in region play. Wilson (0-4, 0-2) hosts North Myrtle Beach.
