HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Tara King, principal of Washington Street Elementary School in Hartsville, has announced her resignation to pursue other professional opportunities.

King began her career as a teacher at Brunson-Dargan Elementary School in Darlington. She served as the Darlington County School District’s elementary curriculum facilitator, the PULSE/Comer Program facilitator and principal of West Hartsville Elementary School.

King has led Washington Street Elementary School since 2016.

“We appreciate all that Ms. King has done for the students of Darlington County,” said Tim Newman, superintendent of the Darlington County School District. “We wish her the best as she continues her professional journey.”

The district will begin the search for a new principal immediately.
