HARTSVILLE, S.C. – A Hartsville man faces three counts of attempted murder following a July 4 incident that left a two-year-old in a Hartsville area hospital.

The incident happened at a residence on Sidney Lane in Hartsville, according to a release from the Darlington County Sheriff's Office.

“Investigators with the Special Victims Unit arrested Jermaine Leonardo Dubose, 30, of Hartsville, today,” Darlington County Sheriff Tony Chavis said through a release Friday afternoon. “Investigators allege Dubose attempted to kill a mother and her two children with a knife and further assaulted the two-year-old by throwing the child against the floor numerous times requiring hospitalization.”

Dubose was booked into the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center shortly before 2 p.m. Friday and is expected to appear before a Darlington County Magistrate Saturday. Bond for the charges will ultimately have to be set by a circuit court judge.
