FLORENCE, S.C. – The 37th annual Florence Greek Festival continues Saturday and Sunday at the Hellenic Center next to Transfiguration of Our Savior Greek Orthodox Church, 2990 S. Cashua Dive in Florence. The festival opened Friday.

Become immersed in the Greek culture and cuisine and learn about the faith and the church through tours and lectures. The church will remain open for prayer and “self-guided tours” throughout the festival.

Hours for are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The festival offers attendees the opportunity to sample a variety of Greek food and desserts.

Festival goers at the 37th Annual Florence Greek Festival will be entertained by a Greek band and Greek dancers.

Some favorites are Greek baked chicken, souvlaki, gyros, spanakopita, dolmades and moussaka, all available to eat in or take out. The food is served in the main hall at the Hellenic Center.

Pastries are available in the main hall by the dozen and individually. Try a festival favorite, baklava, or a canoli, éclair or kourambiedes and more.

Visit the outdoor carnival; be entertained by a Greek band and dancers. Food vendors will be available for lighter fare such as gyros, sandwiches, corn dogs and fries.

Children’s activities include carnival rides, a big Ferris wheel, a carousel, pony rides and a petting zoo.

The Pashalis Greek Orchestra will perform throughout the day. Greek dancers perform at 12:45, 3:30, 6:30 and 8:30 today and at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. There will be traditional dances from various regions of Greece.

Proceeds from this year’s event will go to building projects, local charitable donations and the Diakonia youth camp.
