FLORENCE, S.C. – Open Door Baptist Church in Florence will host a worship service to honor the Rev. Michelle Law-Gordon for a decade of pastoral ministry. Law-Gordon is the first woman to be installed as a pastor of a Pee Dee Baptist Association member church in its more than 100-year history, according to an announcement.
The event will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at New Zion Baptist Church, 610 W. Roughfork St. in Florence. The guest preacher and church will be the Rev. Norman Gamble and New Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Law-Gordon has served as a reserve chaplain (major) in the United States Air Force for the past 11 years, currently serving with the wing chaplain at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina. In addition, she serves as president of the Pee Dee Missionary Baptist Christian Education Department, another position never previously occupied by a woman.
Law-Gordon is a graduate of Wilson High School, Morris College, Troy State University and Shaw University School of Divinity. She is pursuing doctoral studies at Northeastern Seminary in Rochester, New York.
The announcement said she is a lifelong member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church and a member of the South Carolina Minority Affairs Commission, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and the Morning news Faith and Values Board, for which she writes columns.
