I recently went on two spring break trips with my children: one with my college daughter last month and one with my middle school son last week.

Since their spring breaks are at different times, they each got a trip of their own. And each one’s trip reflected his/her personality.

For my daughter’s spring break, we went to New York. That trip was as fast paced, on the go and fearless as she is.

For my son’s trip, we went to Chimney Rock State Park. My son loves nature, so while my husband and dad took the elevator to the top of Chimney Rock and bragged that they “climbed” it in 32 seconds flat, my son and I climbed about 550 steps straight up the mountain.

Needless to say, I found out just how out of shape I’m in on that climb! But he loved it! And I loved being with him!

As we were walking ... and walking ... and walking, we would stop along the way to take in the beautiful scenery (and so mom could catch her breath). As we gazed out over the edge of the mountain, I was reminded over and over of Psalm 19:1 that says “The heavens declare the Glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” What a beautiful reminder to me of God’s providential care. There’s an old hymn that sums it up best:

There’s the wonder of sunset at evening, the wonder at sunrise I see;

But the wonder of wonders that thrills my soul is the wonder that God loves me.

There’s the wonder of springtime and harvest, the sky, the stars, the sun;

But the wonder of wonders that thrills my soul is the wonder that’s only begun.

O, the wonder of it all! The wonder of it all!

Just to think that God loves me.

O, the wonder of it all! The wonder of it all!

Just to think that God loves me.
