FLORENCE, S.C. – Several hundred people boogied to the tunes of Trey Calloway on Friday evening during the Downtown Country Jam.

This was the second year the city of Florence hosted a country-themed downtown event.

Calloway, a country artist based out of North Myrtle Beach, played a mixture of original songs and covers, including his original “Somebody’s Gotta Do It,” which he said he wrote about his father. Calloway performed a number of songs from different country artists, such as Tim McGraw and Merle Haggard.

The Downtown Country Jam brought people from outside of the city.

Lynchburg residents Melisa and Philip Scheussler said they came out because Melisa heard about the event on the radio earlier in the day.

Melisa said she had never heard Calloway’s music, but she said his music was awesome. This was their first time coming to a downtown Florence event.

The family-oriented event included inflatables for children. Local Motive Brewing Co. hosted a corn hole tournament with gift cards to the restaurant and brewery as prizes.

The event also had multiple food and sweets vendors. Dolce Vita, Wholly Smokin’, Sweet Tooth and others sold food for event attendees.

The next Downtown Florence event will be Florence After Five from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 26 on the 100 block of South Dargan Street.
