Florence School District One's Musically Exceptional summer workshop will be held June 12-15 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Southside Middle School. This program is designed for student from grades 7-12 specifically for vocalists, band and string players. This camp is open to non-DOME students, but all students must submit applications by June 2. ‘Build a Better World!’

Come explore the world with the Florence County Library System during its summer reading program. This year's theme, "Build a Better World!," seeks to discover the world and other cultures through reading. The Summer Reading Program, which is open to young people from babies to young adults, features weekly programs, prize drawings, storytimes, a summer reading club, and more. All programs are free of charge.

Teen Programs are for rising sixth- through 12th-graders at the Florence, Johnsonville, Lake City and Pamplico libraries. This year's theme "Build a Better World" pertains to building and social consciousness.

The Florence Family YMCA is offering Summer Day Camps for children 5K thru sixth grade. They will have special activities that make summer fun! Attendees will participate in a variety of team building activities and learn many different skills. Apprentices who successfully complete 8 of the 10 sessions will earn a monetary award. Bill McKenzie's "Reach for the Stars" SAT/PSAT Summer Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 18-20 at Poynor Education Center. This is a great opportunity to the learn the newly revised format, meet and study with other highly motivated accelerated learners, prepare for the 2017 PSAT/NMSQT test to earn recognition as a National Merit Scholar, earn high scores on the SAT to gain admission to the college or univerity of his/her choice, qualify for scholarship assistance and additional merit-based financial aid, and learn to how turn "fear and anxiety" into "confidence and success." “Madagascar: A Musical Adventure, Jr.” (July 10-21). The Coker College Theater Program will offer "Madagascar: A Musical Adventure, Jr." from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday for campers ages 6 to 16. Campers will present a staged production on Thursday, July 20, and Friday, July 21. Filled with outlandish characters, adventure galore and an upbeat score, Madagascar JR. will leave cast and audiences alike with no choice but to "Move It, Move It!" Coker College Summer Dance Intensive

Summer Dance Intensive (July 17-21). At the Coker College Summer Dance Intensive, expect to explore and grow as an artist through the diverse curriculum. Coker's distinguished faculty push you to develop your artistic perspective, technical facility and expand your creative voice. The Coker College Summer Dance Intensive will prepare you to succeed. The format of the workshop will include daily technique class in Ballet and Modern technique, additional classes in Jazz Dance, Improvisation, Composition, Dance Conditioning/Somatics. Students will also learn Repertory to be performed in an informal performance on the last day of the workshop. Registration fee is $30 with tuition being $400. Housing is $250. Week in the Wild (July 10-14, July 17-21 or July 24-28) is a great way for your child to have a safe, fun, hands-on learning experience in the natural environment. The program is open to rising 1st- through 6th-graders. Nature study, arts and crafts, hikes, and games are just some of the activities we have planned for these not so lazy summer mornings. Summer Piano Institute

Over the past year, students in the piano program at Coker College received Honorable Mentions in the Young Artist and Senior Divisions of the SC MTNA Competitions, won scholarships such as the Sylvia Looney and Mary Avinger Scholarship Awards, and have performed in masterclasses with top concert pianists such as Boris Berman, Heidi Williams, and Michael Gurt. Former students the institute have now gone to study piano at the collegiate level.

The program will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 17-21 for students in seventh through 12th grade and will feature daily lessons, group lessons, and the opportunity to study four-hand piano music. 4-H Day Camps

>> Summer Fun Day Camp (June 5-9) will include science experiments, snack-making, and community field trips for ages 8 to 13 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Cost for this camp is $60 per child and $50 for additional children in same immediate family.

The Darlington County Recreation Department is at 300 Sanders St. in Darlington.

>> 4-H2O Day Camp (June 12-16) will be a week of learning about water and wildlife from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at Lee State Park. Campers will kayak, make tie-dye T-shirts, paper, study animal tracks, water quality, macro-invertebrates, snakes and more. Cost for this camp is $30 for 4-H members and $40 for nonmembers. Add $5 for Thursday overnight.

Fork Retch Wildlife Refuge

Wildlife Action Adventure Camp is a week of outdoor experiences to raise awareness about conservation of our natural resources, nurture appreciation of wildlife, and teach stewardship of the good earth. Each summer children ages 6-16 are invited to experience a variety of Adventure Camps at Fork Retch Wildlife Refuge on the Little Pee Dee River.

>> Session 1: Pioneer Day Camp (June 5-9). This is a co-ed camp for ages 6-11 and costs $125. Kids will arrive before 8 a.m. and leave at 1 p.m. Activities may include: fishing, canoeing, gun safety, archery, songs and nature appreciation. Application deadline is June 1.

>> Session 2: Pioneer Adventure Camp (June 19-23). This is a co-ed camp for ages 6-13 and costs $125. Kids will arrive before 8 a.m. and leave at 1 p.m. Activities may include: fishing, canoeing, gun safety, archery, songs and nature appreciation. Application deadline is June 16.

>> Session 3: Pathfinder Overnight Camp (July 9-14). Overnight Camps are co-ed for ages 9-12 for $300. Overnight Camp provides a chance for each child to develop his or her skills and abilities by imparting such values as responsibility, integrity, pride, team work, and leadership while learning about conservation. Application deadline is July 6. Campers should arrive by 3 p.m. on Sunday to check in.

>> Session 4: Teen Overnight Camp (July 23-28). Overnight Camps are co-ed for ages 13-16 for $300. Overnight Camp provides a chance for each child to develop his or her skills and abilities by imparting such values as responsibility, integrity, pride, team work, and leadership while learning about conservation. Application deadline is July 20. Campers should arrive by 3 p.m. on Sunday to check in.
