Jim Boden exhibition

Jim Boden's exhibition, "Out of Paradise," is on display at the Waters Gallery in downtown Florence.

FLORENCE, S.C. – Jim Boden will discuss his recent work and current exhibition, "Out of Paradise," from noon to 1 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the Waters Gallery.

Boden, a resident of Hartsville, served 17 years on the faculty in the art department of Coker College, now Coker University. During this time, his art came to use the human figure as a means of expressing complex cultural and political themes.

“Boden’s paintings are full of personal symbolism,” museum curator Stephen W. Motte said. “Although there are frequent allusions to classical mythology and literature, the paintings are wholly contemporary.”

The event will be catered and free to the public. Limited seating will be available.

Refreshments will be served at noon, followed by the artist’s presentation from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m., concluding with a question-and-answer session and an opportunity to meet the artist.
