LAKE CITY, S.C. – ArtFields, Lake City’s nine-day art festival and competition, starts Friday.
A ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. at The Stables at the Crossroads will mark the start of the festivities. Other specialty events for the day include the annual Dandelion Stroll and a laser show.
The Dandelion Stroll is set to begin at 6 p.m. According to the ArtFields’ Field Guide, the festival will kick off with a drumline parade down Main Street to the Village Green. It will begin at The Inn at the Crossroads. Following the parade, people will stroll the town to view competition artwork and see live performers.
The laser show is new to ArtFields. It is expected to go from 8:45 to 9 p.m. at East Main Park. The blaze of colors will be coupled with music.
Other activities are planned for Friday at ArtFields including It’s All About The Art at Moore Farms Botanical Garden and the Snapsterbooth in the ArtFields Welcome Center.
Saturday’s events begin with a 5K Color Run at 7:30 p.m. Participants will run through downtown and become the canvas as they are splashed with color along the route. Field Day activities will be held on the Village Green throughout the race. It is $25 to participate in the color run. Online registration can be completed on strictlyrunning.com until 6:59 p.m. Friday.
Infinity Show Band will end Saturday’s festivities with a performance on the Village Green at 7 p.m. Several events are scheduled throughout the day and artwork will be on display at competition venues. Two hundred fifty students were invited this year to display their artwork and compete in ArtFields Jr.
New this year is the Lake City ArtFields Collective. The organization will manage the TRAX Visual Art Center and Jones-Carter Gallery to produce a tourist destination that offers year-round exhibitions, programming and educational opportunity for youth, according to the field guide.
