FLORENCE, S.C. – The Future Entrepreneurs Scholars Foundation helped Tyler Perry to provide advice to students at the Florence Career Center on Wednesday morning.

Walter Finnigan, executive director of the John Maxwell Team, spoke to students from the entrepreneurship class of Francis Daniels-Richardson, the cosmetology class of Patricia Byrd, and the Nail Technology class of Lanette Battle. As part of his speech, Finnigan played a video featuring an interview of Perry by Maxwell about leadership.

“I have the coolest job in the world,” Finnigan told the students. “I travel around the world to talk to kids about entrepreneurship and about how to believe in yourself. Today, we’re going to do something that’s even better than what I normally do because I got something a little special.”

Finnigan explained that his connection with the Maxwell Team allowed him to present the video of Perry.

Finnigan also told the class he plans to come back in several weeks to continue his discussion on entrepreneurship with them.

Perry is an actor, playwright, and filmmaker best known for his Madea character and the TBS series, Tyler Perry’s House of Payne. In 2011, Forbes reported Perry was the highest paid entertainer as he earned $130 million from May 2010 to November 2011. Perry’s interview explained that he grew up in very dire circumstances in New Orleans which he overcame to become who he is now.

Maxwell is the author of a number of titles on leadership and a professional speaker and minister.

The Future Entrepreneurs Scholarship Foundation is a nonprofit organization that uses speakers and other events to engage the next generations to focus on entrepreneurship. For more information about the foundation, visit scfutureentrepreneurs.com.
