The Lamar Silver Foxes’ varsity football team will advance to their third-consecutive lower state championship game after a 54-0 drubbing of Hanna-Pamplico Saturday night.

Lamar will face Carver’s Bay for the third consecutive year also.

On Friday, Lamar jumped out to a quick 21-0 lead and never looked back as every aspect of the Silver Foxes’ game rolled like a well-oiled machine. Hanna-Pamplico only crossed midfield once in the first half.

Lamar held the Red Raiders to an amazing negative 15 total yards in the contest.

Jonathan Dargan led the Silver Foxes’ rushing attack with 149 yards on 26 carries and accounted for four of Lamar’s touchdowns.

Lamar quarterback Trevor Norris also joined in the fun as he went 6 for 6 for 151 yards passing and one touchdown. Receiver B.J. Goodson caught four of those passes for 130 yards and the touchdown. Anthony McAllister also returned a punt 46 yards for a score for the Silver Foxes.

On defense, Goodson, Jimmy Davis and Graylyn Jefferson led Lamar with 7 tackles apiece; however, the defense was anchored by the superb play of the defensive line.
The Red Raiders couldn’t manage anything against the Silver Foxes, and the Lamar offense needed very little time on each of its possessions as they dominated the game in every possible way.

“It was by far our best total game of the season,“ Lamar head coach J.R. Boyd said. “We’ve been on the kids all year about total team ball, and we put it together Friday night.“

Boyd said every phase of the team, offense, defense and special teams, played very well. “It was just a total game that couldn’t come at a better time to send us to the lower state championship.“

The win sets Lamar for its third-consecutive lower state championship match and it’s third consecutive game against Carver’s Bay. In 2007, Carver’s Bay defeated Lamar 41-7 to advance to football’s final game. In 2006, Carver’s Bay edged Lamar 27-26 for a ticket to the championship.

“Carver’s Bay is a big, physical team,“ Boyd said on Monday. “We’ve got to maintain our blocks against them because they close in a hurry.“ The coach said the Bears do not allow opposing teams room for error, so Lamar will have to keep mistakes to a minimum.

“You can’t make many mistakes against them,“ he said. “They have won (the state championship) several times, and they are a very good team. It will be a tough challenge, but hopefully we can put something together like we did (last) Friday night.“

The two teams will face off at 7:30 p.m. in Hemingway where the Bears are 6-0 this season.
