FLORENCE — Francis Marion men’s basketball assistant Jonathan Holmes has left his position to fill an assistant coaching vacancy at the College of William and Mary.

Holmes served on FMU head coach Gary Edwards’ staff for the past two years, where his primary responsibilities included recruiting, on-floor coaching, individual player workouts, preseason and postseason workouts and helping in the area of academic support for team members.

Edwards said a search for Holmes’ replacement has already begun.

Holmes, a 2003 graduate of North Carolina, where he was a four-year letterman on the Tar Heel basketball team, previously spent one season as an assistant coach and head junior varsity coach at Montreat College in 2005-06. Holmes also played professionally overseas for two seasons.

FMU’s Macy to speak at SCBCA clinic Monday

FLORENCE — Francis Marion women’s basketball coach Heather Macy will be one of eight featured speakers at the 2008 South Carolina Basketball Coaches Association Clinic, which begins Sunday in North Charleston.

The event will be held at the Charleston Area Convention Center Complex.

Macy will speak at 5 p.m. Monday and her presentation is entitled “Pressure Defense: 94 Feet and 40 Minutes.” She is the only female coach among the presenters, which include USC’s Darrin Horn and Clemson’s Oliver Purnell.

In her first season at Francis Marion, Macy directed the Patriot women to the ninth-best turn-around in NCAA Division II history. FMU posted a 21-9 record, captured a share of the Peach Belt Conference regular-season crown and earned a bid to the NCAA Division II national tournament, where the program served as host for the South Atlantic Regional, only a year after FMU compiled a 6-22 mark in 2006-07.
