FMU basketball adds Furman transfer

FLORENCE — The Francis Marion men’s basketball team bolstered its frontcourt with the addition of Stanley Jones.
Jones, a Miami native, joins the Patriots after spending the past three season at Furman. He will have one year of eligibility left.
This season, Jones played in eight games, starting seven times, and averaged 6.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He connected on 55.3 percent of his field goal attempts.
As a freshman, he made 21 starts and averaged 5.4 points and 3.4 rebounds.
During his freshman campaign, he played in 28 gamesand averaged 6.7 points and 3.7 rebounds per game with 24 blocks, while shooting 53.2 percent from the floor. He scored in double digits in four contests and was named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team.
Jones played high school ball at Monsignor Pace Prep School, where he tallied 10 points and 9.2 rebounds per game as a senior, while helping lead his school to a 27-6 mark and an appearance in the Class 3A state semifinals.
Jones joins a pair of transfer guards, Kendrick Robinson of Goose Creek and Anthony Wallen of Anderson, Ala., who previously announced their intentions to attend FMU, which went 12-16 last season.
FMU golf adds Jackson
Gloverville native Matt Jackson has signed to play golf with the FMU golf program.
Jackson will have two years of eligibility beginning this fall after transferring from Spartanburg Methodist College. Jackson, 6-0, 160, carded a 75.1 stroke average, won three events, and posted eight top-10 finishes in 12 tournaments.
Jackson placed 19th at the NJCAA Division I District 5/Region X Championships as the Pioneers placed fifth out of 10 squads.
Jackson was a two-time all-region selection at Midland Valley High School.
Francis Marion loses one senior from last season’s 100-66 squad that completed the program’s first year as a full-fledged NCAA Division I member. That record included five top-five finishes and the team title at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate hosted by William and Mary.
