That means earning and maintaining your trust, seeking the truth, reporting it fairly, with integrity and independence. It also means being held accountable for the way we do our jobs.
That's the idea behind a new initiative at News13 we call "Voice of the Viewer." It’s a chance for you to sound off, and tell us how you feel about the stories we cover, and how we cover them.
According to a study from the Pew Research Center, Only twenty-one percent of people surveyed said they think news organizations deal fairly with all sides of a story. Seventy-two percent said news coverage is often one-sided.
Another survey, this one by the Annenberg Public Policy Center asked, “When there is a serious mistake in a news story, do you think most news organizations ‘quickly report the mistake’, ‘ignore it’, or ‘try to cover it up?‘" Forty-one percent said news organizations try to cover it up.
So how do we change this perception?
- By doing the things we mentioned earlier:
- Earning and maintaining your trust.
- Seeking the truth and reporting it fairly.
- And also, by being accountability to you, our viewers.
Here’s where you come in. We want to hear from you. There are three ways to be a part of our “Voice of the Viewer” project.
First, by mailing your comments to either of our two studios:

In Myrtle Beach, call (843) 294-8313, after business hours listen for the Voice of the Viewer prompt during the menu.
Every Thursday at 6:00, we'll review some of your comments, and address the points you raise.
We think it's a great way to give you, our viewers, real input on how we cover the news.
Thanks for watching News 13, and for helping us deliver Coverage You Can Count On.
Sincerely,
Bob Juback
