It’s now past deadline for South Carolina residents to register to vote in Nov. 4 election.
But, earlier Saturday voter registration offices were open in the Pee Dee and across the state and many people took advantage of that to register.

Most voter registration offices in the Pee Dee will be open part of the day Saturday, the deadline for residents to register to vote in the Nov. 4 general election.

Florence independent mayoral candidate Rocky Pearce’s campaign will hold a free community fish fry Friday.

Voter registration drives will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in Florence.

The Florence Branch NAACP, in partnership with the eBushua Arts Foundation, will sponsor a voter registration program at 5 p.m. Sunday in Florence.

Jeffrey Tanner and Holly Wall, both board members of Florence School District 5’s Board of Trustees, have been elected to serve another term.

Election Day is still seven weeks away, but many residents in Florence County already are scrambling to make sure they’re able to vote Nov. 4.

Florence’s mayoral and city council hopefuls generally agree voters should have a say in a referendum that could allow Sunday alcohol sales, although some candidates oppose such a change, and for various reasons.

In less than three months, voters will head to the polls to decide who will be the next mayor of the City of Florence.

Florence County’s acting elections director is serving as interim director following the dismissal of Mike Young, who in May was suspended without pay.

Florence Mayor Frank Willis has officially filed an appeal with the state Supreme Court in regards to the mayoral primary that was held June 10. 

The South Carolina Supreme Court decided earlier this month to grant Councilwoman Retha Pierce’s appeal of a circuit court order to hold a new election in the town’s disputed mayor’s race. Pierce’s initial brief must be postmarked by the close of business Monday.
