BAMBERG, S.C. (AP) _ Bamberg County Hospital and Nursing Center says it will reduce it’s full-time staff by nearly 40 positions to improve its financial position.
The hospital’s board of trustees says the cuts in the 260-member staff will save 10 percent in salary and benefit expenses.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg reports the hospital plans to reorganize management staff and reduce supply and utility costs.
Board Chairman Randy Maxwell says the changes will not affect the quality of patient care. The hospital will continue to operate a 24-hour emergency room, surgery and obstetrical services.
Hospital administrator Kurt Meyer says the changes are needed to reach the financial operating targets.
Bamberg County Hospital has 59 beds and operates an 88-bed nursing center. There are 27 active and consulting doctors.
