Inauguration Day is not too far away and some local Democrats are making sure they don’t miss out on this historic day.

“I’m actually looking forward to attending the Grits and Granite Ball with the New Hampshire Democratic Party,” said Susan Smith, chairwoman of the Waccamaw Neck Democratic Club who will be staying not too far from Capitol Hill with friend and Horry County Democratic Party Chairwoman Shirley Greene.

“I worked on John Edwards campaign and got to go to Iowa which was an unforgettable experience,” added Smith, “it’s too bad he lost but I’m still excited to go to the inauguration.”

Smith also tells News 13 that Barack Obama’s inauguration on January 20 will be her first time as she wasn’t involved in the Clinton campaign.

“I’m waiting to get there so I can celebrate this historical event just like everyone else that will be there.”
