Dillon County Coroner Dan Grimsley said a two-year-old child drowned in a pool on Saturday.
Grimsley said it happened shortly before 7 p.m. at a house on Twilight drive in Dillon.
Grimsley said the family was having a cook-out when a family friend found the victim in the pool.
The coroner identified the child as Cierra Lynn Bruce.
Count on more details as they become available.

I am so sorry for the loss of this child. It is easy to look back and say what should have been done, but the truth is - things happen so fast. It is so easy to lose track of a child for a few minutes. You think someone else is watching them and they thinks someone else is, etc. If you have a pool, keep it as kid-safe as possible.

I also have two children, one is the same age as the young victim and I know that it is impossible to keep an eye on your children at ALL TIMES. People like to say that but it’s not so easily done. To the parents, I do hope that you will understand that it was not your fault and God will see you through this. My heart goes out to you.

I raised 3 children and am also taking care of 3 grandchildren. I would never let a 2 year old near a pool without my hand holding theirs. I know just exactly how fast a 2 year old can get away from you. That is why you do not take your eyes off of them when there is a pool nearby..I am very sorry for the parents loss!!!

The other comment posted here must be from someone who has never been around a 2 year old. In a split second a child can amaze you with their ability to reach danger. My heart goes out to the parents and I’m sure they are punishing themselves more than any of us could. I’m very sorry for your loss.

Why wasn’t someone’s eyes constantly on this 2 year old? And wasn’t it an above ground pool? That had to take a while for a 2 year old to get in it.
