Winners for the Pee Dee Regional Art Competition sponsored by Chick-fil-A were announced at a reception Thursday at Florence Museum:
First place: Denise Greer of Rembert for “No Nudes”
Second place: Topm Herzog of Florence for “Grow Hard, Grow Cold”
Third place: Janet Brand of Florence for “Giving Light to the Eyes; Haitian Woman”
People’s Choice Award: Jesse Motte for “Butterfly”
Honorable mentions were awarded to
Dina Hall of Murrells Inlet for “Looking Down, Hoh Rainforest”
Sasha Federer of Florence for “Beaded Glory”
Amber McKenzie of Florence for “Swan Lake”
Kimberly Ramey of Dillon for “Prince of the Parking Garage”
The judge for this year’s show was Brian Lang, associate curator of decorative arts at the Columbia Museum of Art. The reception was hosted by Friends of the Florence Museum, who decorated and provided hors d’oeuvres from their cookbook, “Party Palette.”
This year’s art exhibit includes 50 entries from 39 artists who were accepted from more than 200 submissions. These works display a diversity of media, scale and subject matter, reflecting a wide range of artistic vision and technique.
They will be on display through Nov. 16 at Florence Museum, 558 Spruce St., Florence. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Call (843) 662-3351 or visit http://www.florencemuseum.org.
