Nesmith man arrested in connection with domestic assault

A Nesmith man has been arrested seven months after threatening to kill his girlfriend, Florence County Sheriff’s Lt. Brett Camp said.
Larry Coles Jr., 25, of 185 Soloman Circle, is charged with first-offense criminal domestic violence, criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, second-degree burglary and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, Florence County Detention Center booking reports show.
The suspect is accused of assaulting his live-in girlfriend Jan. 5 and fleeing the area, Camp said.
“Once he left, he’d phoned the victim and threatened her as well,” Camp said. “Then he returned to the home on Jan. 12, kicked in the door, making forced eentry after she refused to let him in, and assaulted her again.”
Camp said the victim was hiding in the home with two children when the suspect intruded, held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her.
Coles was arrested Saturday remains in custody at the jail in Effingham awaiting a bond hearing.
