While police are still looking for clues in Kanisha McLaughlin’s death, her family is wondering why.
“Yeah we were surprised, but we expected it, but it was surprising the way that it happened,” said Jasmine Legette, McLaughlin’s sister.
Jasmine Legette’s sister was found dead inside a room at the Imperial Motel.
“Well I’ve been dealing with it more asking a lot of questions to my self, why it had to happen,” said Legette.
Police are calling 29 year-old Kanisha McLaughlin’s death a murder.
Authorities said someone shot her several times in the head.
“Well the last couple of years have been rough, but before that she was my best friend,” said Legette.
Legette said there are reasons why her sister’s death wasn’t a shock.
“Just stuff she was dealing with that’s all I can say. She was dealing with some stuff,” said Legette.
For the past year family members said McLaughlin and her 7 year-old son lived with her grandmother.
“She loved her son to death. Everyone that knew her they knew about Josh,” said Legette.
But, Sunday night police said McLaughlin was staying with someone else inside room 110; the rest is under investigation.
Police told News13 the man that McLaughlin checked into the motel with isn’t being ruled out as a suspect.
Police also said that they’re not to the point in their investigation where they can determine a motive.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Mullins Police Department.
SLED is also assisting with the investigation.
