A Pennsylvania man has been charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death in connection with a Florence County wreck, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said.
James Jerome Williams, 63, of Philadelphia was arrested Thursday, Florence County Detention Center booking reports show. He also is charged with first-offense possession of one ounce or less of marijuana.
The 2004 Cadillac Williams was driving June 26 on Interstate 95 in Florence County when he swerved to avoid another vehicle, went down an enbankment and struck a tree, killing a backseat passenger, Collins said.
April J. Scott, 26, died as a result of injuries she suffered in the crash, Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews said.
Her mother and another person were in the car when the crash happened, Matthews said.
No other vehicles were involved, and the crash remains under investigation, Collins said.
