Former six-term U.S. Sen. Ernest F. “Fritz” Hollings will sign copies of his latest book, “Making Government Work,” from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Drs. Bruce & Lee Foundation Library’s meeting room, 509 S. Dargan St., Florence.
The political memoir takes aim at a political system and government that Hollings says has gone “into the ditch.” He draws antidotes from anecdotes about his personal experiences in making government work in spite of itself for the past 50 years.
“Still showing his trademark wit and wisdom, Hollings treats us to an insider’s candid retrospective on how government forged successes in the past, as well as a compelling vision of how it can be made to serve the people’s interests better in the future,” former state Gov. Richard Riley wrote in a review of the book.
The free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Florence County Library. Copies of the book will be available for sale.
