Two men are charged with felony driving under the influence in connection with a head-on traffic collision in Scranton on Tuesday night, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said.

They were among three people taken to an area hospital for treatment as a result of the crash, which happened at 7:10 p.m., Collins said.

Patrick Creel, 23, was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer north on Trifalia Road when he collided with a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by 18-year-old Joshua McClam, who was heading south near the intersection of Sam Lee Road, Collins said.

The drivers, as well as Creel’s passenger, 22 year-old Daniel Pervis, had to be cut from their vehicles using the jaws of life. The pickup truck, which caught fire, had to be extinguished, according to firefighters on the scene.

Collins said the highway patrol’s Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team’s investigation of the crash should reveal which vehicle crossed the center line. Such investigations are “very detailed and in-depth,” he said, and sometimes take as long as a month to complete.
