The US Marshals Fugitive Task Force and Florence County deputies arrested a man Maryland investigators say tried to kill a former Baltimore police officer more than one week ago.

Sheriff Kenney Boone said his deputies arrested 39-year-old Erick Thomas of Baltimore on Thursday afternoon during a traffic stop off National Cemetery Road in Florence.

According to WJZ-TV in Baltimore, Baltimore County Police detectives say Thomas fired gunshots at a man changing a tire outside an apartment complex around 6:00 a.m. on July 8th.

Investigators in Maryland would not confirm if the victim, who is expected to survive, was in fact a former police officer, but investigators tell WJZ that Thomas is the suspect in the case.

Boone said his deputies got a tip that Thomas might be in the Pee Dee.

Investigators from Maryland will travel to Florence County, where Thomas is in custody at the Florence County Detention Center in Effingham.

The Florence City Police, Marion City Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations assisted in this case.
