Two Florence brothers accused of stealing a van at gunpoint, then setting it on fire, were captured Friday afternoon, Florence County Sheriff’s Lt. Brett Camp said.

Shallah Allah Marshall, 19, and Jahaad Tireim Marshall, 22, both of 442 W. Evans St., face charges of armed robbery and third-degree arson,  possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and grand larceny of a motor vehicle, Camp said.

The incident happened at 8 a.m. Sept. 15 at Hampton Inn and Suites on West Lucas Street, Camp said. The suspects pointed a gun at a couple as they were leaving a hotel room and demanded a cell phone, credit cards and money.

The suspects fled the scene in the couple’s white van, which was later found burned behind a church on McQueen Street.

Investigators received a tip that the suspects were in Raleigh, N.C., where they were captured with assistance from the U.S. Marshal’s Service, Camp said.

The Marshalls remain in custody in North Carolina and are expected to be extradited to Effingham within the next few days, he said.
