It’s been two days since an off-duty Chesterfield County deputy was killed in a head-on collision near McBee.
Sgt. Darryl Quick had been with the sheriff’s office since 1999 and according to Sheriff Sam Parker, had worked his way up the ranks from a school resource officer to a senior sergeant.

While those who knew him say he was devoted to his job, they say he was also devoted to his family and the community.
According to officials, Quick served as a deacon at Outreach for Christ Missionary Baptist Church in Cheraw and also as an assistant basketball and baseball coach in the Small Fry and Dixie Youth Leagues.
Those who know Quick’s family say prayer and faith are helping them get by.
“They’ll get by it. You know, it may take a while, but they’ll get by it. They’ll get by it and having God in your life and stuff, that does so much better, you know,” said Tyron Davis, who was Quick’s cousin by marriage.
Quick’s funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday at First Baptist Church in Cheraw.

I feel so sorry for both families in this tragic accident. Every story I’ve read still leaves me with a lot of questions: Why wasn’t an autopsy done to be sure Quick didn’t have a heart attack or some other problem? That does happen to young people like Officer Quick. Why don’t we know for sure who crossed the middle line? I heard it was Quick that crossed the line and ran into that boy. It was raining real bad that day. Did anyone think about maybe Quick’s car hydroplanned on water at the bridge, crossed the line, and was in that boy’s path? I’m not trying to blame Quick, I just want somebody to check into these things. Officer Quick had a wife and young children, but has anyone checked to see if the injured boy did too? I just hope that some real answers will soon be given. There’s too many rumors going around now. We all need answers. My prayers go out to both families.

Darryl and his wife are very close friends and next door neighbor. They were very supportive as a family and to the community. This is very shocking news but I have always been there for the Quick family and will support the wife(my friend) to the end and the future. With faith and trust in God we will be able to see brighter days. We love you Darryl and the Quick family.
