Investigators said they think they’ve spotted escaped inmate Rayshawn James in Orangeburg, according to a press release from the S.C. Department of Corrections.
Authorities tracked James to an apartment complex at 1214 Douglas MacArthur St. in the city of Orangeburg about 5 p.m. Wednesday. As they approached the building, James fled into a nearby wooded area.
At the time, he was wearing a white T-shirt, red shorts and black shoes.
James is described as a black man weighing about 205 pounds and about 5 feet 11 inches tall.
Investigators believe he is still in the Orangeburg area.
James escaped June 28 from Palmer Pre-Release Center in Florence. He was serving a six-year sentence for crack distribution in Chesterfield County.
Anyone with information on James’ whereabout is asked to call the S.C. Department of Corrections at (803) 896-2258; the S.C. Law Enforcement Division at (803) 737-9000; or the nearest law enforcement agency.
