Merchants in downtown Hartsville will hopefully no longer have to worry about drainage issues thanks to a new project being conducted on Carolina and East College Avenues. 
Officials say for years, anytime there was a significant amount of rain, water would back up into some downtown storefronts.
“It was a really serious issue.  It was damaging cars, it was damaging some of the stores, so it’s something that was a long time coming,” said Mayor Michael Holt.
