A Cheraw High School student was arrested Tuesday after deputies said he was seen brandishing a weapon on a school bus bound for the school, according to a Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

Letevin Hudley, 17, of 2775 Rosser Lane in Wallace is charged with weapons law violation, according to the report.

A witness told a law enforcement officer Tuesday that he and several others had seen the suspect with the weapon on the bus Monday.

The suspect showed the weapon to the witness and said he’d brought the gun on the bus for his “baby’s mother’s brother, who was after him for hitting his sister (the baby’s mother)” and that the brother was following the bus, according to the report.

At some point, the suspect got off the bus and chased the person who was following the bus, but never caught him.

During the chase, someone yelled from the bus window that the suspect had a gun, according to the report.

The next day, the suspect came to school and threatened the person who yelled out the window.

The suspect was questioned and led authorities to his mother’s home, where a small silver semi-automatic weapon was recovered.

Hudley was released Wednesday from the Chesterfield County Detention Center on a $1,000 personal recognizance bond.

The suspect has been suspended from Cheraw High School as a result of the incident, according to a press release issued Wednesday by Ken Buck, Chesterfield County School District’s public information officer.

Another student is also facing disciplinary action in connection with the incident, Buck said.

“The safety and well-being of our students and staff is the first priority at Cheraw High School and in all Chesterfield County schools,” he said in the release. “The goal is for all students to achieve high academic standards within a safe learning environment.”
